Creating your profile

Why should I create a profile?

Presenting an appealing profile is essential for attracting students to purchase your lessons. Moreover, your profile includes crucial information which allows us to provide you with our services. If you do not fill all the required sections shown beside the asterisk (*) accurately, we may not be able to offer most of our services to you.

Who will see my profile information?

The information you have entered in the “profile” section will be seen by members and guest users with the exception of your PayPal information. Your PayPal information is kept by LearnOnAir so that we can provide a timely transfer of your earnings.

How do I create a profile?

  1. Click on the “personal information” section and complete the form.
  2. Change or add your photo from the “Change Photo” section.
  3. Add your CV to present your skills and expertise to future students.
  4. Select your “interested categories” because your ad will be categorised under them.
  5. Complete your “interested topics” section if you are unable to find them in the “interested categories”.
  6. You may provide your “contact details” so interested students can contact you.
  7. Be sure to share your available times for online lessons at the “Weekly schedule” section.

Using Your Dashboard

What can I do on my Dashboard?

“Dashboard” gives you a bird’s-eye view of your account and activities.

  1. See all your private requests (from “Requests List”).
  2. Check your LearnOnAir messages (from “Messages”).
  3. Review your advertisements (from “My Ads”).
  4. See all your upcoming sessions which have been sold (from “active sessions”).
  5. Click on “Tour” at the top of the screen for more information.
  6. Click on the “+” sign at the top of the screen for shortcut actions.

What is the difference between a “Lesson” and a “Session”?

What you advertise or want to teach is a lesson.

What you sell is a session of a lesson.

You do not need to advertise a lesson to sell a session.

For example, Lisa is an English instructor. She advertised a “LESSON” titled “Writing tips for VCE”. Later, a student (Maggie) requested to attend Lisa’s lesson. Lisa created a private session for Maggie and delivered the lesson on the 3rd of June at 20:00. (A private session for Maggie) Lisa can create as many sessions as she wants for the same lesson. She may create a public session so any student who is interested can buy and join or she may create a private session for a chosen student.

Please check ‘What Is A Public Session?’, ‘What Is A Private Session?’

Creating an Ad

How do I benefit from creating an advertisement?

Creating advertisements will provide you with three benefits.

First, your advertisement will help attract the attention of students, leading to an increased amount of sales.

Second, you can advertise as many lessons as you prefer with no added cost, making it easier for students to find a specific lesson for themselves, saving you and your student time.

Finally, by advertising you as an instructor become a part of our rate and review system which allows Students to easily distinguish between you and other instructors as to who has given the better lesson on a certain topic. It also allows You to see and compare for yourself which lessons are getting sold more, and which ones are rated high by students.

How do I create a new advertisement?

To monetise your expertise with ease, use our free advertisement services.

  1. Click on “My Ads” to see your existing ads or create a new one.
  2. Select “Add new” tab.
  3. Add a sample video (a snippet of you teaching this class), if you prefer, by clicking on “Add Video”.
  4. Select “Single Lesson” if this lesson is going to be a one-off session.

  6. Fill the required sections while your video is uploading.
  7. Be sure to upload an appealing image for your advertisement.
  8. Click on “Tour” at the top of the screen for more information.

Why do I need to attach a video to my advertisement?

Including a short video of you teaching this class has a high chance of increasing sales amounts and attract more students. If no teaching example is given, it is possible that students may be discouraged purchasing your lessons blindly.

How do I create a single lesson advertisement?

Some subjects can be taught in a single session. When you do not need more than one session to complete your subject, you can use our “Single Lesson” service. By creating a syllabus, you can outline the topics within each session. When advertising a lesson package, you can sell multiple sessions under the same heading in one go. For example, an instructor may separate his lesson into three sessions. Introduction to the topic in the first session, explaining the theory in the second session and problem solving in the last session.

  1. Click on “My Ads” to see your existing ads or create a new one.

You can request homework, project assistance or just a private lesson on any topic by making a public or private request.

If you have a certain request for a chosen instructor, you may create a private request which is sent only to your chosen instructor. But you do not have to choose an instructor for all your requests. Create a public request and allow LearnOnAir to do the searching for you! LearnOnAir will filter through all instructors and align your request with instructors who are experts in that field. Correspondingly, your public request will be displayed on our “requests” page, so all you have to do is sit back and relax while instructors contact you. Don’t forget that all instructors have a rating and have been reviewed, so the power of choice is in your hands!

Since LearnOnAir will be sharing its own profit with you, this will not affect your friend financially.

LearnOnAir Essentials

Do I need a camera to use LearnOnAir?

To make full use of LearnOnAir, we recommend that you use a HD webcam of any sort (inbuilt laptop webcams work perfectly). This is highly recommended for instructors to help ensure an optimal online classroom experience. However, for students, a camera is not necessary but we do recommend it if you wish to communicate and share documents or homework with your instructor.

What happens if I do not have a webcam?

If you are unable to purchase a webcam, you may download applications such as ‘EpocCam Viewer’ which enable you to use your phone or tablet’s camera as a webcam. Similarly you could use a document camera which directly broadcasts your worksheet on the screen just like a whiteboard.

Do I need a microphone to use LearnOnAir?

You can use any type of earphones or headset to maximise and keep clear your input and output volumes. This will enhance your LearnOnAir experience and ensure all users are satisfied with what they hear. Using the inbuilt microphone of your device may cause a distracting echo, which is why we recommend using a plugged-in microphone. Having said that, you may still connect to an online live session without a microphone.

How do I ensure that I have the best viewing experience?

For good quality lessons, keep an eye out for your visibility. For example, it may make it hard for one user to see another if sunlight is coming from behind them (light should not be aimed directly into the webcam’s lens). For maximum visibility, try to keep all light sources aimed at yourself.

LearnOnAir’s Refund Policy

How long does it take for a refund to be processed?

Typically it takes 1-3 business days for the refund to be processed by PayPal. If you have not received your refund after 5 business days, please contact PayPal support.

If PayPal does not see a refund in their records then contact LearnOnAir Support.

Instructor:

In which situations can a student receive a full refund for their purchased session?

If a student is not happy with your teaching methods or for any other reason, they may request a full refund within the first 15 minutes of the session.

What if a student has paid for their session but is late to class?

If a student has paid for a session but does not attend the lesson within the first 15 minutes, as an instructor you will receive a penalty fee of 30% of the session’s total price. If a student joins after the first 15 minutes of a session, you may still choose to continue your session (at your own discretion) however the payment arrangements stated above will still be in effect and cannot be changed.

What happens if I am late to a session that I should be instructing?

If you do not join the session within the first 15 minutes, the student/s will receive a full refund and you will not receive any payment. If you join the session after the first 15 minutes you may still choose to continue your session however the payment arrangements stated above will still be in effect and cannot be changed.

Student:

When can I request a refund?

If you are not satisfied with your session for any reason, you may request a full refund within 15 minutes of your session’s start time.

For example, if a session’s start time is 7:00pm, you may only request a refund until 7:15pm. Therefore, if you join the session at 7:10pm you have a shorter time to request a refund. At 7:15pm the refund button will disappear. To avoid a shorter refund period, make sure you are always on time to your sessions!

You may not request a refund after the first 15 minutes of a session. If you have decided to continue with your session after the first 15 minutes and have any further concerns, you may rate and review your instructor or lesson.

How can I request a refund?

You may request a refund by clicking the “refund” button located on your student dashboard.

What if I am 15 minutes late to a session?

If you fail to attend a session you have paid for within the first 15 minutes, you will only receive a refund equal to 50% of the session’s price. The remaining 50% will be deducted as a penalty.

What if the instructor is 15 minutes late to a session?

If your instructor fails to attend the first 15 minutes of a session you have already paid for, you will receive a full refund.

If my instructor cancels a session will it automatically be re-booked for another time?

When an instructor cancels a session, our system automatically and fully refunds payments to all students who purchased the session. It is at the discretion of the instructor to contact the student/s to offer a replacement session for another time. LearnOnAir does not guarantee such a replacement will be made and is not liable for any lessons that are not replaced by the instructor.
